September Body Care, Hair Care and Skin Care

Beauty update time and in this post I’ll be sharing the body, hair and skincare products I’ve been trying out this month. This is in no way an endorsement of the products, and I can’t say if they’ve made a huge difference to my skin or hair. It’s more about sharing what I’ve been using and so far I have to admit they haven’t caused any bad reactions – thank goodness for that!

Body Care

When it comes to my body I have to admit that I use a number of different products when I’m showering. I don’t necessarily use the same one every day, in fact I often alternate depending on my mood that day.

bioelixia & dove

BioElixia

For those of you who have not heard of BioElixia, it’s a brand that heralds for using a combination of natural ingredients that have been enhanced through TPM Dermal Delivery Technology. Basically, it’s a scientifically designed technology that will help deliver more multi-vitamins, anti-ageing peptides and moisturising oils to where your skin needs it most.

I was sent the BodyShaper Radiance Body Cleanser ($24.95) and BodyShaper Stretch Mark Diminishing Cream ($39.00) to try out and I’ve been using this for over 4 weeks now.

  • *BodyShaper Radiance Body Cleanser

The body cleanser is supposed to act as a “prep” for whichever BodyShaper product you’ll be using afterwards. With ingredients such as green tea and trehalose, which are found in cactus plants, it’s supposed to help your skin hydrate while still leaving your skin feeling clean and fresh. The body cleanser has a nice, refreshing scent, which reminds me of the sea and thankfully leaves me with a soft finish and no tightness right after I’ve rinsed it off. The price though I think is a little bit steep for something I am going to wash off my skin, so I’m not sure if I’ll be purchasing this once I’ve finished this tube of cleanser.

  • *BodyShaper Stretch Mark Diminishing Cream

Now, let me be clear and say that I do not believe that there’s actually a product out there that can actually erase any stretch marks, so to call it a diminishing cream is a rather smart move. The cream promises to lighten up any stretch marks…I’m wondering how light it would go because I’ve been using this for over 4 weeks and I can still see my light silvery marks.

The instructions do say to use it TWICE a day though, and I’ve only been using it once a day, so that might be the issue? I don’t know. I don’t mind the texture though – it’s creamy without being oily. And I do love the soft, fresh scent, much like the body cleanser. Again, the cost is a fact that I’m not keen on because I know of other stretch mark diminishing products on the market that are far more affordable.

*Dove Go Fresh Touch Nourishing Body Wash

The other product I’ve been alternating with is this one by Dove, the Go Fresh Touch Nourishing Body Wash. What can I say about Dove except so far I haven’t had any issues against using their products. They are extremely affordable, readily available in supermarkets, chemists and my favourite place to shop for skincare and beauty products – Priceline! What’s so great about the Go Fresh range is that it’s got this amazingly refreshing scent. Not surprising as it has been infused with the fragrance of cucumber and green tea. Another “special” thing about this range is the fact that it also contains NutriumMoisture; a nourishing beauty serum that has been enriched with skin-identical lipids that deeply absorbs within the skin’s surface, leaving your skin feeling plump and soft.

I think in all honesty, what’s sold me on this body wash is the scent. It’s a great pick me up for those mornings where you just can’t get going (trust me, I’ve used this all through my practicum!) or after a good session at the gym or a run, when you know…your body is stinky. The price is another saleable factor. Right now it’s 1/2 price at Priceline but even at the full price of $6.99 for a 375ml bottle, this body wash is well worth my money.

Hair Care

Next up is hair care. I was intrigued to try this particular product, not just because it’s by Kevin Murphy but also because of the “secret” ingredient that is included in this hair masque.

The hair masque comes in this pastel pink squeezable upright bottle, and in it is quinoa. Yep, you read it right. What we thought would be great for our body is also, apparently very good for our hair! According to Murphy, quinoa being a complete protein and containing amino acids would help bring moisture to the hair while also repairing deep into the hair. It also assists in soothing irritated scalps, detangling hair and makes it soft and shiny.

Other ingredients include Tripepetides from citrus and bamboo to help promote hair growth, and silk proteins and aloe extracts to work on improving your hair’s elasticity, resilience and restoration of moisture balance. The jojoba esters help to provide strength and thickness to the hair. Which is why this particular masque has been designed especially for fine, colour treated hair like mine.

The consistency is rather thick and it has a soft rose scent mixed with lime. All you need is a teeny tiny bit, massaged onto your scalp as well as your hair. How I normally use this is after I’ve cleansed my hair with my shampoo, then apply this as what I’ve mentioned above, leaving it on for about 5 – 10 minutes. I only do this once a week and while waiting for the goodness of the masque to absorb onto my hair, I exfoliate my body. No time or water wasted there ;)

Does it work? I have no idea as my hair wasn’t coarse to begin with. I do however believe in prevention rather than cure, so preventing my hair follicles from getting any thinner is my main aim as I get older with age. While the price might be a bit steep for some, I know that this would last me a long while – especially when I’ve got short hair! Plus, I only ever use this weekly, except for when I need to condition my hair with the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Color Lustre.

Skin Care

Finally the new products I’ve been using for my face, and not surprisingly they’re French skincare products. I’ve always had a soft spot for French skincare products because let’s face it – they work. On me at least. So why not right? From Lancome, to Uriage, Bioderma and La RochePosay, I have to say, they have been pretty good for my skin. With the exception of the Redermic [R] from La RochePosay. Sad…that makes me so sad.

Anyway, the latest skincare range I’ve been trialling is the one from Nuxe. Known for their amazingly decadent dry body oil, Nuxe has recently released their skincare range in Australia.

The eye cream is from their Creme Prodigieuse range, perfect for everyday use. This little bottle of goodness contains blue everlasting flower, blue agerate extract, cocoa extract, plant glycerin, hyaluronic acid and botanical caffeine. Nuxe is known for only using natural ingredients in their products and therefore using plant based products (even the hyaluronic acid is derived naturally) to create their range.

The caffeine and cocoa is great for targeting any signs of fatigue and the great thing about this eye cream is the fact that it targets both ageing and puffiness. I love the creamy texture and soft flowery scent that accompanies this product. As with many other eye creams, you only need very little to go a long way. I think this would do a nice rotation with the Uriage Eye Gel, depending on which one is on sale!

Developed for those under 40, this range has been designed to help de-stress, smooth and relax your skin, helping it to look and stay young and radiant. In other words, it’s meant to target the first signs of ageing.

Being in my late 30s means I’ve got to both work on the already fine lines that have appeared on my face as well as prevent more from appearing. Or at least, slow the signs of ageing. Ingredients include, blue lotus seeds, althea root, poppy seeds, tree peony root and musk rose oil. The cream is great for day or night use, but I use this during the day as it’s lighter than the Merveillance range, which is targeted at more mature skin. Thankfully the scent isn’t overpowering and so far my skin agrees with this formulation. A little goes a long way for those of you with oily combination skin.

Great for those with not only more mature skin (over 40) this particular one, the Enriche is perfect for those with very dry skin. The cream is thick and rich, which is why I use this only at night – to help regenerate my skin cells while I’m sleeping. It has calendula officinalis petals, mimosa seeds, althea root, hyaluronic acid sphere, acmella, malt and oat extracts plus plant oils such as hazelnut, inca inchi and marula.

Luckily, I haven’t had any breakouts from using this rather rich and creamy product (touch wood!). There is a slight scent, but like the Nirvanesque, it isn’t over powering. The price though is a little bit steep for my liking. Then again, Nuxe is like the higher end range from Cosmetique de France, compared to Bioderma and Uriage. Will I re-purchase this? Only when I’m desperate or if there’s a sale at Priceline. It’s just too steep for my liking when I can also use the Nirvanesque as a substitute.

That’s it for the new products I’ve been trying out in September. Have you tried any of the products I’ve mentioned? What were your thoughts on them? Which of these have piqued your curiosity to try?
